Rehabbing Royce Lewis back on field, with Saints, and feeling good about his knee

Rehabbing Royce Lewis back on field, with Saints, and feeling good about his knee Royce Lewis made his first appearance of the season at CHS Field on Tuesday as he continues his comeback from a second ACL surgery on his right knee that cost him almost all of last season.Batting leadoff and playing shortstop, Lewis went 0-for-4 in the Saints’ 6-1 loss to the Omaha Storm Chasers, but he was all smiles afterward, thrilled to be playing the game he loves again, and doing it pain free.Part of Lewis’ second procedure was the tightening of his right iliotibial band (IT), which works as a stabilizer for the knee.“That’s the only thing I can feel from the surgery,” Lewis said. “They told me before surgery that if we did this it would make the knee more stable. They said I would feel the IT band being tight going forward, but it’s so worth it. I would recommend anyone having an ACL surgery to have this procedure done. That lateral stabilization is huge.”Rehabbing a torn ACL is known to be a grueling process, but sometimes overlooked is the mental aspect of the process. Lik...

Twins place Trevor Larnach on IL with pneumonia The Twins on Tuesday placed Trevor Larnach on the 10-day injured list after he was diagnosed with pneumonia. He joins 10 teammates on the IL, including starters Jorge Polanco and Max Kepler.“We’ll see how he is in a few days,” manager Rocco Baldelli said. “There was no way he was going to be playing any time in the near future. We need to get him off his feet and let him rest for a couple days.”The Twins recalled Matt Wallner from St. Paul and he was available for Tuesday night’s game against the San Francisco Giants at Target Field. In two stints with the Twins this season, Larnach hit .215 with four doubles, two triples, five home runs and 27 RBIs in 39 games.“When he comes back, he’s going to need a couple of days to build back up and feel like a normal human being again before we put him on the field,” Baldelli said.Wallner, 25, is making his third appearance with the big-league club, and second this season. He was hitless in 11 plate appearances in mid-April. In 30 games with th...

With no sign of Dalvin Cook, it looks like Alexander Mattison will lead Vikings’ ground game

With no sign of Dalvin Cook, it looks like Alexander Mattison will lead Vikings’ ground game Ever since Alexander Mattison has been a member of the Vikings, he has shared a backfield with Dalvin Cook.Never mind they both play running back, and thus, have competed hard against each other for touches. They have remained joined at the hip around TCO Performance Center, forming a brotherly bond that will more than likely span the duration of their respective NFL careers and beyond. That has made this offseason particularly awkward.  Effectively, when Mattison signed a 2-year, $7 million contract extension with the Vikings a couple of months ago, he simultaneously made his good friend extremely expendable. As much as Cook has produced at a high level during his years with the Vikings, he carries a $14 million cap hit. If the team cuts Cook after June 1, they will save $9 million in cap space, which can be used to improve other parts of the roster. That might explain why Cook has not been spotted around the practice facility this spring. He was conspicuously absent on Tuesday as doz...
