What you didn’t see on TV on Oscars night

LOS ANGELES (AP) — It’s during the commercial breaks that the audience inside the Dolby Theatre really comes to life on Oscar night. The stars will gladly play for the cameras posted in their face during the global broadcast – they are actors after all – but a lot of the time it seems like most would rather just talk to their fellow artists in the room. The breaks may go on for an eternity for people watching the Oscars at home but in the Dolby, they’re never long enough as stars on the main floor abruptly end conversations and rush to take their seats again. The beginning of the show is always a scramble as security, organizers and a booming voice of god all try to coax attendees to their seats in time for the live broadcast start. Some barely made it in, like “The Last of Us” and “The Mandalorian” star Pedro Pascal, whose handler pleaded to let him in because of his appearance in host Jimmy Kimmel’s monologue, while others, like Elizabeth Banks, seem to have been shut out of the open...Free fridge opens in Del Valle food desert

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- As Austin’s population continues to boom, so too does the small town near the airport known as Del Valle.According to data from the City of Austin, Del Valle’s population hovers at around 3,200 people.Although the town is growing with new neighbors and businesses, its residents are driving multiple miles to reach a grocery store.Del Valle is currently the largest food desert in Travis County. A food desert is an area without access to affordable and healthy food.In this case, Del Valle’s nearest grocery store is 10-15 miles away at the H-E-B on East Riverside Drive. To help with the lack of available food options, the Del Valle Community Coalition recently opened up a free fridge at Elroy Community Library. The pantry is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The fridge is stocked with things like bread, bacon and cereal.Claudia Zapata is a project manager with the Del Valle Community Coalition."Our community fridge has allowed us to provide one short term solution to...Is Texas part of the South, West or Plains? Why no one can agree

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) - Amarillo has been colloquially referred to as a "halfway point to anywhere," as well as "the center of the known universe" due to its unique position in the United States and its central location in "the big boxy part at the top" of Texas. Halfway across the historic Route 66 and nestled one short drive away from four neighboring states, Amarillo is considered a hallmark of the American West. And the American South. And the Great Plains. The Texas Panhandle exists in a somewhat nebulous state in that government departments, researchers, and locals appear to disagree on whether the region should be considered western, southern, or central in the U.S. However, the Texas Panhandle isn't the only region that provokes these conversations; they happen all across the state. Where is Texas, anyway, and why do so many people disagree? The answer may seem noncommittal: It depends on who you ask, and why. Texas covers over 268,597 square miles of land, reaching as...03/13/2023: Gearing up for a big nor'easter
