WASHINGTON D.C. (KXAN) -- Scientists looking to observe asteroids will get a rare chance this weekend. According to NASA's Planetary Defense Coordination Office, a newly discovered asteroid -- which is known as a Near-Earth Object -- will "safely" pass within only 100,000 miles on Saturday.NASA defines Near-Earth Objects as "comets and asteroids that have been nudged by the gravitational attraction of nearby planets into orbits that allow them to enter the Earth’s neighborhood."The office says the asteroid, named 2023 DZ2, measures between 140 feet and 310 feet in diameter. "While close approaches are a regular occurrence, one by an asteroid of this size (140-310 ft) happens only about once per decade, providing a unique opportunity for science," the office said. TYLER, Texas (KETK) -- The fungus called Candida Auris (or C. Auris for short), was first detected in the United States in 2016, but is now spreading at an "alarming" rate, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warned this week. Doctors are assuring the public that it’s not going to take over the world and kill us all, but it is something we need to be aware of. CDC study warns of ‘dramatic increase’ in deadly fungus across US “It’s something we’ve been tracking for probably 10 years,” said infectious disease specialist Dr. Michelle Barron.Between 2019 and 2021, clinical cases of Candida auris tripled. The fungus has now been reported in 28 states, according to the CDC.“The fact that it’s increasing in number and also increasing in terms of where we can find it is kind of a combination that’s very disturbing,” said Dr. Bruce Hirsch at Northwell Health in New York. Candida auris is so concerning because it is often resistant to anti-fungal drugs, making it hard to treat i...Ottawa Reaches A Deal With U.S To Close Roxham Border In Quebec

The Wild think it’s Jonas Brodin

PHILADELPHIA — Wild coach Dean Evason smiled as he made a joke last week, likely because he knew it was laced with so much truth.Asked to assess the play of defenseman Jonas Brodin, who had missed a month with a lower-body injury, Evason said the Swede could miss three years and look exactly the same.“He’s such a gifted skater, right?” Evason said. “We’ve seen them all through the years. There’s just special guys that can skate like that.”There’s no doubt Brodin belongs on that short list. He dominates defensively on a nightly basis with his innate ability to stick with opposing players in open ice. His teammates often joke that he can skate backward faster than most players can skate forward.“Someone sent me a text the other day that said, ‘Is he the most underrated player in the game?’ ” Evason said. “It’s possible.”The biggest reason Brodin doesn’t get more recognition on a national sc...Malta Stewart's installs superchargers for both Tesla and non-Tesla cars
