ST. LOUIS - It’s scary to think of the trouble that can be right in our midst, with most of us having no idea. Two women kidnapped from Florida end up being held captive at a hotel in downtown St. Louis, according to police.St. Louis police credit hotel staff for assisting officers to put an end to the frightening ordeal and say the case is sparking concerns about possible human trafficking.Around 11:30 a.m. Saturday, police received a rather bizarre call from the staff at the Hampton Inn at 333 Washington Avenue. Two women from Florida reportedly told hotel staff that they were being held captive in one of the rooms. The women, ages 21 and 36, told officers that their captors told them they were needed for a “moving” job in Florida about 10 days ago. They were instead driven to the Atlanta area and then to St. Louis, frightened about what might be next.Police did not say how long they were held at the hotel. Close Thanks for signing up! ST. LOUIS – Relatives of an elder fraud suspect are still living in the home the feds say was taken for just $1. The defendant, Gino Rives, had an unusual response to his recent guilty plea.Rives walked out of federal court Wednesday after a judge said he could remain out on bond until he’s sentenced next March. He pleaded guilty earlier this week to financially exploiting two elderly victims.“I didn’t do nothing wrong. God knows the truth,” he said. “That’s all I feel good about saying: God knows the truth.”Why did Rives plead guilty?“I had to,” he said. The feds say the truth is what he admitted in the courtroom.“The thing that stood out the most was how he attracted individuals; how he attracted his victims,” federal prosecutor Tracy Berry said. “By going to their homes, by pretending he was a handyman, by gaining their trust, and these were individuals who didn’t have family members.” Florida kidnapping victims rescued from downtown St. Louis hotel Like on Dorisann Court in Aff...The search for would-be Ladue carjackers

PHOENIX (AP) — Will Smith’s been a really good relief pitcher in the big leagues for 12 years. He’s also got a knack for being in the right place at the right time. The left-handed reliever became the first player in MLB history to win three World Series in a row with three different teams after the Texas Rangers beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-0 on Wednesday night to clinch the franchise’s first title.“As a kid, in your front yard playing catch, when you’re first falling in love with baseball, it’s always 3-2, bottom of the ninth, Game 7 of the World Series,” Smith said after Game 4. “You always dream of being in these situations. So to be lucky enough to do it three years in a row, it’s something I don’t take for granted.”Smith — a 2019 All-Star selection who grew up in Georgia — was a key piece of Atlanta’s bullpen in 2021 when the Braves won the title, throwing four scoreless innings during the World Series.
