GENEVA (AP) — Adam Yates retained his yellow jersey to complete victory Sunday in the six-day Tour de Romandie for his biggest win in more than two years. Yates’ solo ride in the mountains Saturday to win the queen stage had created a 19-second lead over Matteo Jorgenson of the United States. The English rider maintained that gap by finishing safely in the pack of a sprint that decided the final stage. The stage win Sunday went to Fernando Gaviria who raced several bike lengths clear of the chasing pack on the lakeside finish in Geneva. “We controlled the race perfectly today,” said Yates, who races for the same UAE team as two-time Tour de France winner Tadej Pogačar. “It’s been a perfect week for us, we had two stage wins.”The Romandie race through the French-speaking region of Switzerland is a traditional warmup for the Tour de France though it was skipped this year by the expected main contenders in July. The 30-year-old Yates, who has a best Tour de France result of fourth place...

Williams, Harrison, Maye are top prospects in 2024 NFL draft

Published Mon, 03 Mar 2025 16:41:52 GMT

The 2024 NFL draft class could quickly transform losers into winners. With a full season of college football still to be played, two future franchise quarterbacks are already being penciled into the top of draft boards: Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams of Southern California and North Carolina’s Drake Maye.Conventional wisdom is that both would grade out higher than Alabama’s Bryce Young, who went No. 1 overall to the Carolina Panthers last Thursday night in Kansas City, Missouri.Things can change, of course, but barring injuries the top prospects in 2024 should include two QBs, a wider receiver with Hall of Fame bloodlines, a couple of foundational left tackles and several Alabama defensive players.A way-too-early look at how the 2024 draft could play out:1. MANCHESTER, England (AP) — Days after a third round of bidding for Manchester United, the Premier League club’s supporters stepped up efforts to drive out American owners, the Glazer family. A protest was held outside United’s Old Trafford stadium ahead of Sunday’s game against Aston Villa. Fans were urged to wait until 18 minutes after kickoff to take their seats, to represent the 18 years that the Glazers have been in control of the storied soccer team. A large group held up a banner that read “Full Sale Only” amid fears the owners may yet retain a majority or minority stake, despite inviting offers for their shares after announcing plans to “explore strategic alternatives” in November. On Friday, Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani and British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe submitted their latest bids for the club. It is estimated the price for United could reach around $6 billion if a full sale goes through. Supporters, however, have grown increasingly co...
