Rockies squander Kyle Freeland gem in road loss to Kansas City Kyle Freeland was darn near perfect Sunday afternoon. But three miniscule mistakes — two off-target breaking balls in the fifth, and a changeup left up in the zone in the eighth — cost him as the Rockies lineup failed to give the left-hander support in a 2-0 loss at Kauffman Stadium.Freeland’s second miss went for an RBI single that put the Royals ahead 1-0, and Maikel Garcia smacked the third for a solo homer that barely clipped the center field wall and chased Freeland from the game.“I noticed from the first inning on they were swinging and they were trying to make contact so I let them do it, and let them try and hit it as far as they could to center field,” Freeland told reporters postgame after allowing just four hits over seven-plus innings with zero walks.“Obviously the one in the eighth inning there, the wind stopped and it was able to get out. … It was the right pitch, we were throwing fastballs and sliders inside. He was aware of that. Threw a ...

Oath Keepers Leader Stewart Rhodes Says He’s a Political Prisoner. Republicans Are Listening. Tasha Adams won her divorce from Oath Keepers leader Stewart Rhodes last month. Three days later, she turned her attention to the Washington, D.C., courtroom where he was set to be sentenced for seditious conspiracy. Prosecutors had asked the judge to give him 25 years in prison for his role in connection with the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6; his attorneys had requested time served. Adams was on the government’s side. She’d been with Rhodes as he’d gone from a 25-year-old Army veteran with a high school education to a Yale-educated lawyer and then founder and leader of the Oath Keepers, which she’d helped him build. Now she considered him a threat to the nation, as well as to herself and their six children. She’d recorded a statement for the prosecution to include with their sentencing request. In it, Adams described Rhodes using a backhoe to dig escape tunnels in the yard, grabbing a daughter by the throat, and precariously waving a loaded handgun in the air before poin...

Ohtani, Rengifo lifts Angels past Astros to avoid sweep, 2-1 HOUSTON (AP) — Shohei Ohtani hit a tiebreaking RBI double in the eighth inning, and the Los Angeles Angels edged the Houston Astros 2-1 on Sunday to avoid a four-game series sweep.Ohtani was hitless before clubbing a pitch from Phil Maton (0-1) off the wall in right field, driving in Gio Urshela for a 2-1 lead. The clutch swing gave Ohtani 41 RBIs on the season. “Just a really good at-bat understanding what the pitcher is trying to do,” Angels manager Phil Nevin said. “Maton is one of the toughest against a lefty in all of baseball. … It worked out for us.” Luis Rengifo hit his third homer for Los Angeles, which stopped a three-game slide. “He’s really swinging it well,” Nevin said. “Three hits last night and a big home run today. To me he’s been very selective, swinging at the right pitches and got the good part of the barrel on one today.” Chris Devenski (3-0) pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings for the win against his first major league team, and Carlos Estéve...
