The Patriots’ 2023 season is off to a slow start, but first-round pick Christian Gonzalez certainly is not.The 21-year-old Oregon product has had very few missteps while facing off against some of the NFL’s best wide receivers. On Sunday, he matched up against Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson and — through some help from the inept play of quarterback Zach Wilson — mostly erased him in the 15-10 win.Related ArticlesNew England Patriots | Patriots RB Ezekiel Elliott opens up about facing Cowboys New England Patriots | Bill Belichick not losing faith in Patriots RB Rhamondre Stevenson through early-season struggles New England Patriots | Patriots TE Pharaoh Brown becomes unlikely hero in 15-10 win over Jets New England Patriots | Callahan: Beating the Jets buys the Patriots time, but little else New England Patriots | Patriots’ defense used old-school strategy to make Jets one-dimensional in win Garr...

By MATTHEW PERRONE (AP Health Writer)WASHINGTON (AP) — The Food and Drug Administration meets this week to consider approval of an experimental treatment for Lou Gehrig’s disease, the culmination of a yearslong lobbying effort by patients with the fatal neurodegenerative disease. Those advocates still face one giant hurdle: FDA regulators say the treatment hasn’t been shown to work.In documents posted Monday, the FDA reiterated its longstanding position that a lone study by drugmaker Brainstorm doesn’t provide convincing evidence that its stem cell-based therapy helps patients with ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. It’s the same message the FDA delivered to company executives in early 2021 when they first shared data on the treatment, dubbed NurOwn. And again last November, when the FDA refused to accept the company’s application for review. But with the backing of thousands of ALS patients, Brainstorm took the rare step of “filing over pr...

BEIRUT (AP) — U.S.-backed Kurdish-led forces imposed a curfew after clashes erupted again on Monday in eastern Syria, where their fighters had battled for weeks with rival Arab militiamen, Syrian media and activists reported. The fighting in a region where hundreds of American troops are deployed has pointed to dangerous seams in a coalition that has kept a lid on the defeated Islamic State group for years. The reports say the Syrian Democratic Forces imposed the open-ended measure in several towns in Deir el-Zour province, including the town of Ziban, close to the Iraqi border where the Americans are based. Hundreds of U.S. troops have been there since 2015 to help in the fight against the militant Islamic State group. The oil-rich province is home to Syria’s largest oil fields.Al Mayadeen, a pan-Arab TV station, said several fighters from the Kurdish-led forces were killed after Arab gunmen took over several parts of Ziban on Monday. The SDF in a statement Monday said the gunmen en...
